Washington – a national capital

The moment we arrived in Washington, I was struck by the similarities with our national capital Canberra. It is very orderly in its layout, clean, a large lake/river as its defining feature,  and a well heeled and well educated population. More lawyers per capita than anywhere else in the world.

It is clearly a city of masons, with so many stone monuments and buildings (Conspiracy theory alert). The Americans honor their dead soldiers and their dead presidents, although I can’t imagine any recent presidents being memorialised in this way.
